Impact Bags, Speed Sticks, and Time in the Gym—All at Once

Having had the chance to use and buy all the latest golf swing tools, from impact bags to speed sticks, I can confidently say few things work as well as slashing a large area of grass by hand. Big swings, proper striking, and speed to cut through are essential components of a good golf swing. There’s nothing quite like this repetitive action to ingrain those skills, all while earning a sense of self-made satisfaction through hard work.

In my younger years, I did a lot of manual labor, and one of my favorite tasks was slashing the block of land we were developing. Maintaining a few acres at a time was one of the best ways to improve my golf swing. It allowed me to work on strike, swing, and strength—all at once. Plus, it gave me the mental space to observe where my thoughts wandered during the process.
